Cranial Nerves Mind Map

Cranial nerves are 12 pairs of mixed (sensory and motor) nerves that come out of the brainstem. They connect to various parts of the head and neck, allowing us to see, smell, talk, swallow, and control facial expressions. They also govern some reflexive movements, such as blinking or coughing. Each cranial nerve controls one or more specific tasks, ranging from olfaction (sense of smell) to hearing to vision. There are a total of 12 cranial nerves found in the human body, categorized into two different groups: the sensory and motor cranial nerves. The sensory group includes the olfactory nerve (CN I), optic nerve (CN II), oculomotor nerve (CN III), trochlear nerve (CN IV), trigeminal nerve (CN V), abducens nerve (CN VI), facial nerve (CN VII) and vestibulocochlear/auditory/acoustic nerve (CN VIII). The motor group consists of the glossopharyngeal nerve (CN IX), vagus nerve (CN X), accessory nerve (XI), and hypoglossal nerve (XII).
