cognitive behavioral therapy
Overview
What is it?
The basic idea of CBT: ideas determine emotions, and experience determines ideas. Experiences need comparison to be meaningful, and there are also individual differences in experiences.
Understand the basic concepts of CBT
Concepts determine emotions: Concepts are a kind of cognition (noun). Through the process of cognition, an idea of a certain thing is formed. Different concepts (understandings) cause different emotional reactions.
Experience determines concepts: Experience is generated by people in the process of social practice and is the reflection of objective things in people's minds. Experience is the beginning of ideas (knowledge).
case conceptualization
The first step in cognitive behavioral therapy: find the concepts corresponding to these models in psychological counseling, such as situations, automatic thoughts, ideas, etc., and find out what each concept corresponds to in the case.

Features of cognitive behavioral therapy
① Focus on the problem and be goal-oriented.
②Cognitive changes and behavioral changes.
③Consultation notes and homework.
④Scientific evidence, short-range and efficient.
three stages of cognition
The sequence of cognitive changes: automatic thinking stage → intermediate belief stage → core concept stage
1. Automatic thinking stage
① Automatic thinking: thinking (or thoughts, concepts) induced or stimulated by a specific situation. It is the mediator of the individual's emotional experience, behavioral response and physiological response in that situation.
②Characteristics of automatic thinking
1. Automatic thoughts emerge automatically, but most of the time individuals are not aware of them.
2. The individual accepts it uncritically and is not the result of careful consideration or rational decision-making.
③Evaluation criteria for automatic thinking
1. Validity: refers to whether the automatic thinking (or concept) is consistent with the facts. The presence of evidence to the contrary means that automatic thoughts are not entirely valid.
2. Usefulness (Utility): refers to whether the automatic thinking (or concept) helps to implement the expected goal. Sometimes automatic thoughts are effective but do not contribute to goal achievement, so they need to help achieve the goal.
④Automatic thinking stage intervention process
The first step: identification, finding automatic thoughts and emotions;
Second session: Assessing automatic thoughts and emotions;
The third link: evaluation, the work of correcting automatic thinking;
The fourth link: Consolidation and application.
2. Intermediate belief stage
①Concept: Intermediate beliefs are the expression and explanation of core beliefs in a specific psychological field. They are the individual’s performance in this field. Cognitive beliefs and behavioral guidelines are the basis of beliefs generated by automatic thinking.
The structure of the intermediate belief has three parts. The first one is called "attitude (is)", which describes the negative emotion towards a certain object. The second part is "Positive Assumptions" and "Negative Assumptions" and the third part is "Rules (Attitudes)"
Compensatory strategies: After forming negative core beliefs, individuals develop a set of psychological strategies to cover up negative core beliefs, through which they maintain a positive self-image.
②Types of compensation strategies
Effort strategy, avoidance strategy, compliance strategy, vigilance strategy, attribution strategy, abandonment strategy, narcissism strategy
③The relationship between intermediate beliefs, compensation strategies, and core beliefs
1. Intermediate belief - the compensation strategy is reflected in the intermediate belief, and the two are related to each other.
2. Compensatory strategies to combat negative core beliefs—effort, avoidance, compliance vigilance, attribution, self-abandonment narcissism
④Intermediate belief intervention process
Identify intermediate beliefs - evaluate intermediate beliefs - correct intermediate beliefs - consolidate and apply new beliefs
3. Core belief stage
Counseling in the core belief stage usually focuses on issues that have been ill for a long time, have a greater impact on physical and mental health, and have a greater impact on social life. In terms of the names of specific diseases, such as personality disorders, anxiety disorders, what we used to call neuroticism,

②Types of core beliefs
