Dante
1. Character introduction:
Dante (1265-1321) was the most representative writer, poet and humanist pioneer in Italy during the transition period from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance.
2. Main works of each period:
(1) Youth: The gentle new poetry "Rebirth" is an inheritance and breakthrough of the traditions of Provence lyric poetry and Sicilian love poetry. It is the first of the people-centered humanistic thoughts of the Renaissance, embodies the highest achievement of the gentle new poetic style, and is the first of Renaissance lyric poetry.
(2) Early Exile: Three Theoretical Works
"On the Sayings" (1304-1308) is the earliest treatise on language and poetic rhythm, written in Latin. The book distinguishes between classical Chinese and colloquial language, emphasizes the importance of colloquialism, and advocates the establishment of a national language and literature that integrates colloquial and classical Chinese. It plays an important role in the establishment of Italian national language and the formation of national literature.
The Feast (1304-1307) is the first scholarly work written in colloquial terms in the Middle Ages. Dante introduces various scientific and cultural knowledge through annotations of his poems, which has the significance of intellectual enlightenment.
"On the Empire" (1310-1312) is a political treatise that systematically expounds Dante's political views. It put forward the imperialist idea of coexistence and separation of church and state. It was the first time to theoretically elaborate on the necessity of coexistence of church and state and separation of church and state. It was the germination of modern religious reform and bourgeois political outlook. But it also believed that the feudal emperor was the only hope for Italian national unity, expressing its illusions about the Holy Roman Emperor.
(3) Later years: "Divine Comedy" (the whole poem is divided into three parts: "Hell", "Purgatory" and "Paradise")
