When dealing the The Abbey's vafeteria it is hard to get fresh produce, I have had many of my friends and peers complain that they have found moldy fruit and vegetables and having fresh produce would improve the health of our students. I have often had salads at the cafeteria and multiple times my lettuce has been wilted and tasted old and was not good.
While it is hard to find fresh poduce on campus having it could benefit the diets of students greatly. Harvard has done a study stating that "A diet rich in vegetables and fruits can lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, prevent some types of cancer, lower risk of eye and digestive problems, and have a positive effect upon blood sugar, which can help keep appetite in check." (https://www.hsph.harvard.edu). The Abbey has more athletes attending school than non-athletic students, reading the statement from Harvard's study we know that having fresh produce keeps students healthy and full, which not only benefits non-athletic students but will have a great impact on athletic students. Having vegetables and fruits on our campus garden will impact the students diets greatly and keep The Abbey students healthy.
