OSL Dating

OSL (Optically Stimulated Luminescence) dating is a method used to determine the age of geological materials such as sediments, soils, and pottery. It relies on the fact that natural minerals, when exposed to sunlight or heat, accumulate trapped electrons over time. When these minerals are subsequently buried, the trapped electrons can be released through exposure to light, and the amount of released light (luminescence) can be measured to estimate the time since the burial. OSL dating has significant applications in archaeology, geology, and environmental science.
