Intruduction to E-invoicing
What is E-invoicing?
E-invoicing is a system in which B2B invoices (Business to Business) and a few other documents are authenticated electronically by GSTN for further use on the common GST portal.
Why E-invoicing is Mandatory?
E-invoicing is mandatory for businesses with an annual turnover exceeding Rs. 10 crores which was applied in the fifth phase from 1st October 2022. The e-invoice must include a unique code called the Invoice Reference Number (IRN) generated and signed by the IRP portal.
What are the Penalities under e-invoicing?
If businesses fail to comply with the e-invoicing regulations, they may face penalties under section 122 of the CGST Act, 2017. The penalty for issuing an invoice without uploading the details on the IRP portal is Rs. 10,000 per invoice or 100% of the tax amount, whichever is higher.
Automation Solutions to E-invoicing in SAP
Automating e-invoices with SAP ERP can be a great way for businesses because it can help them reduce errors, save time, improve compliance, and streamline the invoicing process. SAP ERP can integrate with the IRP portal and generate e-invoices in real-time, which can be a great way to avoid such hefty penalties.
IRN Cancellation Rules
An IRN can be cancelled only within 24 hours of its generation on the IRP portal. After 24 hours, no cancellation is allowed.
If a business fails to cancel an IRN within 24 hours, then it must issue a Credit Memo to alter the corresponding details of e-invoice .
Credit Memo will be issued at MARKFED H.O Level. Godown Manager/DEO will report the Mistake E-invoice to H.O through mail or any official communication.
Validate Customer's GSTN in Real Time.
- Customer’s GST number is one of the mandatory fields required as per the government notified schema for e-invoice. Without a valid GST number, an e-invoice cannot be generated on the IRP portal.
- Customer’s GST number is used to verify whether the customer is registered and active on the GST portal on the invoice’s date of preparation. This is to ensure that the e-invoice is issued to a genuine and eligible recipient .
This Process is covered in SAP SD with Autometic Validation
